A HIDDEN TREASURE
Appearing to one of the sisters of her community
shortly after her death, St. Teresa of Avila told the
sister that she would be willing to return to a life of
suffering on earth until the end of time if thereby she
could merit that degree of glory with which God re-
wards one devoutly recited "Hail Mary." St. Paul
speaks in like manner when he says: "The sufferings
of this life are not to be compared with the glory to
come.

If one short prayer is thus rewarded, what reward
awaits those who offer to the Eternal Father, the Pre-
cious Blood of Jesus. "An offering," says Father
Faber, is "More than a prayer." "In prayer we are the
recipients, but when we make an offering God vouch-
safes to accept something from us." In Our Lord's own
words to Sister Mary Martha Chambon, Apostle of the
Holy Wounds. "To offer to the Eternal Father the
Sacred Wounds of Jesus is to offer Him His Glory, to
offer Heaven to Heaven." "Each time you offer to My
Father the merits of My Divine Wounds," He said to
her. "You gain an immense fortune .. . You must not
remain poor, your Father is very rich."
If you and I, at this very moment, were standing on
the threshold of eternity, we would sec a limitless du-
ration extending before us which our vision would fail
to terminate. Looking on this endlessness the awful
truth would come to us that the time of merit had
passed forever. The saints realized this truth while yet
in life, and we can see the vastness of their reward.
Those who have passed into eternity realize that
there will be no further opportunities for additional
merit, for time has passed forever. If regrets were
possible in Heaven, unused opportunities would be the
cause, for the blessed know what greater capacity for
giving accidental honor to God they would have had if
they Had used all their opportunities. Because of God's
mercy they have no regrets, but their status is sealed
forever.
The position of the priest in heaven must be tremen-
dous for he offers daily a Victim-of-Infinite-Worth;
and yet each one of us can offer that same Victim in a
different manner by sincerely saying, "ETERNAL
FATHER I offer Thee the merits of the most Precious
Blood of Jesus."
Just suppose that if you were to make the seven of-
ferings each day. It would take only a few minutes of
time, and yet the vast merit gained would last eternal-
ly. What an investment!

NOVENA PRAYER TO ST.
ANTHONY OF PADUA
0 Holy St. Anthony, gentlest of Saints,
your love for God and Charity for His
creatures, made you worthy, when on
earth, to possess miraculous powers.
Miracles waited on your word, which you
were ever ready to speak for those in
trouble or anxiety. Encouraged by this
thought, I implore of you to obtain for me
(request). The answer to my prayer may
require a miracle, even so, you are the
Saint of Miracles. 0 gentle and loving St.
Anthony, whose heart was ever full of
human sympathy, whisper my petition into
the ears of the Sweet Infant Jesus, who
loved to be folded in your arms; and the
gratitude of my heart will ever be yours.
Amen.
Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.

Prayer of Surrender

   Dearest Lord, I wish to give myself to
You, in complete surrender.  Let every-
thing within me be the way you order it to
be.  If there is anything within me, that
has not been gully given over to You, Dear
Lord, help me search it out and turn it
over to You.  My Lord and my God, every-
thing in my life must be in Your Divine
Order so that my place as a branch of the
Blessed Vine, You, My Lord Jesus Christ,
will be secure and that I may bear much
fruit for You.  Complete surrender, to You,
My Lord and My God, is my earnest prayer
and desire.

   Father, I come to you humbly and ask
You to let the Holy Spirit have complete
control over me and my life.  All of my
thoughts, each word spoken by my tongue,
of my temper, of my attitude and feeling
toward my fellow men.  In every phase of
the work I do, manually and that for Your
Honor and Glory, let the Holy Spirit have
absolute control over all of my life.  Amen.

   Praise, Honor and Glory are Yours,
Almighty and Loving Father.

Memorial Day - God Bless and Keep Us

.
America
by Rev. Samuel F. Smith

My country, 'tis of Thee,
Sweet Land of Liberty
Of thee I sing;
Land where my fathers died,
Land of the pilgrims' pride,
From every mountain side
Let Freedom ring.

My native country, thee,
Land of the noble free,
Thy name I love;
I love thy rocks and rills,
Thy woods and templed hills,
My heart with rapture thrills
Like that above.

Let music swell the breeze,
And ring from all the trees
Sweet Freedom's song;
Let mortal tongues awake;
Let all that breathe partake;
Let rocks their silence break,
The sound prolong.

Our fathers' God to Thee,
Author of Liberty,
To thee we sing,
Long may our land be bright
With Freedom's holy light,
Protect us by thy might
Great God, our King.

Beneath Heaven's gracious will
The stars of progress still
Our course do sway;
In unity sublime
To broader heights we climb,
Triumphant over Time,
God speeds our way!

Grand birthright of our sires,
Our altars and our fires
Keep we still pure!
Our starry flag unfurled,
The hope of all the world,
In peace and light impearled,
God hold secure!

Pentecost Hymns

FATHER, LORD OF EARTH AND HEAVEN

Father, Lord of earth and heaven,
King to whom all gifts belong,
Give your greatest Gift, your Spirit,
God the holy, God the strong.

Son of God, enthroned in glory,
Send your promised Gift of grace,
Make you Church your holy Temple,
God the Spirit's dwelling-place.

Spirit, come, in peae descending
As at Jordan, heav'nly Dove,
Seal your Church as God's anointed,
Set our hearts on fire with love.

Stay among us, God the Father,
Stay among us, God the Son,
Stay among us, Holy Spirit:
Dwell within us, make us one.

THE SPIRIT OF GOD SENDS ME FORTH

Antiphon:
The Spirit of God rests upon me,
The Spirit of God consecrates me,
The Spirit of God bids me go forth to proclaim his peace, his joy.

The Spirit of God sends me forth,
Called to witness the kingdom of Christ among all the nations;
Called to proclaim the good news of Christ to the poor.
My spirit rejoices in God, my Savior.

Antiphon

The Spirit of God sends me forth,
Called to witness the kingdom of Christ among all the nations;
Called to console the hearts overcome with great sorrow.
M spirit rejoices in God, my Savior.

The Spirit of God sends me forth,
Called to witness the kingdom of Christ among all the nations;
Called to comfort the poor who mourn and who weep.

Day 9 - Novena to the Holy Spirit

Thou, on those who evermore
Thee confess and Thee adore,
In Thy sevenfold gifts descend;
Give them comfort when they die;
Give them life with Thee on high;
Give them joys which never end. Amen

MEDITATION
The Fruits of the Holy Spirit
The gifts of the Holy Spirit perfect the supernatural virtues by
enabling us to practice them with greater docility to divine
inspiration. As we grow in the knowledge and love of God under the
direction of the Holy Spirit, our service becomes more sincere and
generous, the practice of virtue more perfect. Such acts of virtue
leave the heart filled with joy and consolation and are known as Fruits
of the Holy Spirit. These Fruits in turn render the practice of virtue
more attractive and become a powerful incentive for still greater
efforts in the service of God, to serve Whom is to reign.

PRAYER
Come, 0 Divine Spirit, fill my heart with Thy heavenly fruits. Thy
charity, joy, peace, patience, benignity, goodness, faith, mildness, and
temperance, that I may never weary in the service of God, but by
continued faithful submission to Thy inspiration may merit to be united
eternally with Thee in the love of the Father and the Son. Amen.

Our Father and Hail Mary once
Glory be to the Father seven times.

Day 8 - Holy Spirit Novena

Bend the stubborn heart and will;
Melt the frozen, warm the chill;
Guide the steps that go astray!

MEDITATION
The Gift of Wisdom
Embodying all the other gifts, as charity embraces all the other virtues. Wisdom is the most perfect of all the gifts. Of Wisdom it is written, "all good things came to me with her, and innumerable riches
through her hands." It is the gift of Wisdom that strengthens our
faith, fortifies hope, perfects charity, and promotes the practice of
virtue in the highest degree. Wisdom enlightens the mind to discern and
relish things divine, in the appreciation of which earthly joys lose
their savor, whilst the cross of Christ yields a divine sweetness
according to the words of the Savior, "Take up thy cross and follow me,
for my yoke is sweet and my burden light."

PRAYER
Come, 0 Spirit of Wisdom, and reveal to my soul the mysteries of
heavenly things, their exceeding greatness, power and beauty. Teach me
to love them above and beyond all passing joys and satisfactions of
earth. Help me to attain them and possess them for ever. Amen.

Our Father and Hail Mary once
Glory be to the Father seven times.
